【Race Report】TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Rally Challenge Round 3

The GLW Racing Team participated in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Rally Challenge Round 3 at Mt. Yatsugatake, Chino, Nagano Prefecture, held on April 20th and 21st as our first participation in the Rally Challenge!
Driver Hideaki Ohno and co-driver Zene Okazaki successfully finished the race, despite the wet road conditions.

One of the surprising aspects of the race was that although we initially thought it would be exclusively on paved roads, there were also sections on gravel roads which are unpaved.
Furthermore, the paved sections turned out to be more challenging mountainous roads than expected, requiring us to drive one gear lower than usual.

There were also sections reminiscent of gymkhana, allowing us to enjoy various course layouts.
Such courses are Ohno’s strength, as he is used to racing on circuits.

For details on the gravel sections in SS2 and SS5, please refer to the official Rally Challenge YouTube channel.
Although we finished 10th out of 12 teams overall in the C-2 (Challenge) class for Vitz 1,500cc limited class, it was a valuable learning experience for our first participation.
Please also refer to the official results for more details.

The local fans showed tremendous enthusiasm, with approximately over 20,000 local fans attending last year.
There were also many opportunities for interaction with senior drivers, making it an enjoyable two-day event overall!
The next race will be in Mt. Fuji, Susono on May 11th and 12th.
We will strive for better results by applying the lessons learned from this race!
